Unique collaboration between Trifilon and Plastal – lightweight biocomposites for tomorrow's cars
Trifilon has begun a strategic collaboration with Plastal, Scandinavia’s largest manufacturer of injection moulded parts for the automotive sector, to develop a biocomposite for exterior car parts. The aim of the project is to create a customized material and showcase its potential for high volume, high performance automotive components.
“This is an important step in developing Trifilon’s material and ensuring it meets the rigorous demands our products face. It’s the right time for this kind of collaboration. There is a clear demand from the market for lightweight composites and a desire to incorporate more bio-based materials,” commented Ragnar Sandmark from Plastal.
Trifilon is based in Stockholm, Sweden, and is focused on developing lightweight biocomposites for high performance applications. By combining Plastal’s injection moulding know-how and Trifilon’s expertise in natural fiber composites, the parties hope to quickly launch a new biocomposite into high volume production.
“This is a great initiative for us to really test the limits of our advanced bio-based materials,” added Martin Lidstrand, CEO of Trifilon.
Trifilon FCP-AP21 is a biocomposite comprised of natural fiber reinforced polypropylene that balances stiffness with impact resistance. The material has been developed for superior flow properties and good surface finish.
